how it all began

First came the stylist, then came the educator…

My journey started just like yours: “I like doing hair—I’m going to be a hairdresser.” So, I went to cosmetology school. I assisted, swept floors, cleaned, and shampooed until my arms and back hurt—learning everything I could along the way.

Honestly? I didn’t think this would be my forever career. It was supposed to support me while I studied graphic design at art school in NYC. But I fell in love with the salon and never looked back.

Behind the chair, every client and every mistake fueled my desire to do better. Over the past 20+ years, I’ve learned (and continue to learn) from every single person I’ve worked under, with, next to, or taken a class from. Education comes in many forms—Sassoon, Pivot Point, TIGI, Arrojo, and Wella. Watch as much as you can, ask questions, and piece it all together.

I’ve worked in just about every setting you can imagine: commission salons, studio rentals, on-location shoots, agency work, and eventually, owning my own salon. Each step taught me new skills, fresh perspectives, and hard-earned lessons that shaped the stylist I am today.

While I learned the hard way, I believe you shouldn’t have to.

MEET Crystal

Two Decades of Styling, Teaching, & Growing

After this many years in the beauty industry, I’ve learned a few things, seen plenty of changes, and made enough mistakes to turn them into successes. I own an established salon—Meraki Hair & Body in Las Vegas, Nevada—and still work behind the chair full-time. Along the way, I’ve trained assistants, mentored apprentices, and learned invaluable lessons in both artistry and business. Now, I’m sharing those lessons with all of you.

Most of my time is spent working behind the chair, behind the computer, running my businesses, or learning how to be better. Outside of work, I love to travel (this photo was taken on a trip to Capri, Italy), sip coffee (or wine or tequila, depending on the day), try new restaurants (Sundays are for besties and brunch), and find balance through self-care for the mind, body, and spirit.

My passion is to share what I’ve learned so you don’t have to navigate the challenges alone. You don’t know what you don’t know and there’s always more to learn. There are a lot of teachers out there, and I might not be the right one for everyone, but I believe you can and should learn something from everyone. You deserve to feel and be successful in your career.
